A & L Great Lakes Laboratories, Inc. is an independently owned and operated agricultural laboratory located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The laboratory occupies a 24,000 sq. ft. facility and employs over 35 professionals and technicians.

A & L Great Lakes Laboratories was established in 1976 by Mr. Don Ankerman and Dr. Richard Large to provide agricultural analyses to the Great Lakes region.  A & L Great Lakes Laboratories became an independent lab from the A & L Group in 2002.  Our company focus is to provide “Quality Analyses for Informed Decisions” to help clients make the best possible crop nutrition management decisions.

Initially established to provide independent soil sample analysis quickly and at a reasonable price, A & L Great Lakes continues to expand its analytical capabilities to include many types of sample matrices including soils, plants, feedstuffs, fertilizers, manures, composts and water.  A & L Great Lakes Laboratories makes an annual commitment to acquire new equipment, develop software based on our client’s needs, and upgrade the laboratory facility, in a continuing effort to provide quality analyses for our clients.

Through training events, lab tours, and client consultation, our focus since 1976 has been to help our clients make the best soil fertility decisions possible.  In addition to providing quality soil, fertilizer, manure, and plant tissue data, we also focus on supporting our clients with knowledge to help with the interpretation of the data.

Our customer consultation has always been built around helping the client find the best solution for their fertility situation, including identifying the best nutrient source,, helping the client identify what is the appropriate timing to use that product based on the situation at hand, and what is to best possible timing and placement of the product to get the most return with the least amount of environmental impact.

The 4R nutrient stewardship principles have brought a defined focus and clarity to these concepts.  As a result, the agronomists on the A & L Great Lakes Laboratories staff find themselves consulting clients with a defined and renewed focus on these core concepts by embracing the 4R approach.
