Canadian Fertilizer Institute
Who We Are
The Canadian Fertilizer Institute (CFI) is an industry association that represents manufacturers, wholesale and retail distributors of nitrogen, phosphate and potash fertilizers. Canada’s fertilizer industry plays an essential role in ensuring that world food needs can be met economically and sustainably. Canada supplies approximately 12% of the world’s fertilizer materials. We are the world’s largest exporters of potash and elemental sulphur. As well, our industry contributes over $12 billion annually to the Canadian economy.
CFI’s vision is to play a leadership role in the global fertilizer industry in meeting the challenge of feeding the world with safe and nutritious food.
As the unified voice of the Canadian fertilizer industry, promote safe, responsible, and sustainable, globally competitive fertilizer production, distribution and use. We strive to fulfill this mission by developing and implementing four key strategic initiatives:
Issues and policy development Knowledge development and education Product stewardship Industry services
CFI Conditions of Membership
CFI’s Board of Directors has agreed to establish clear requirements that every member must abide by as a condition of their membership in the Institute. The initial requirements are compliance with:
The FSSC Ammonia Code of Practice The FSSC Ammonium Nitrate Code of Practice The CFI policy on melamine
Over time, additional conditions of membership will be established, for example, as other codes of practice and policies are approved. The establishment of such membership requirements is consistent with CFI’s commitment to product stewardship and corporate social responsibility.
